Back when I started my blog in 2010, everything was completely different. My family members took my pictures, brand collaborations were NOTHING like they are today, people gave me funny looks when I told them what I did, Instagram had barely launched… the list goes on and on. One major difference was that there was no one who had previously done what I was doing. Yes, this was great because I got to be a pioneer, especially in the blogging industry back in India. But the downside was that there was no one to look up to as inspiration either. Having strong role models can make such a huge difference in accelerating your career, especially for #WomenInBusiness, so when I heard about a recent initiative by one of my favorite brands, Dior, I was obviously thrilled at the possibility of impact this could create for so many women just like me.
I’m pretty sure we’ve all heard of the saying ‘every girl dreams of her wedding day since she is a little girl’. Most women know exactly what style of a lehenga they want, paired with which jewelry and where they want to go for their trousseau shopping trip, before they know who they want to marry!
Jewellery makes for a big part of our trousseau (AKA what we take from our parents house to our husbands house) and sometimes, in the sheer excitement of stocking up on one of the most expensive items on planet earth, we tend to make decisions. Consider me guilty. What we don’t quite spend time thinking about is what comes after the festivities have ended and real life has begun. But now that I’ve been living this ‘after bride life’ for one year, and I want to make sure you don’t make the same mistakes I did!
So here’s a guide to the jewelry staples I recommend to get you through adult life aka married life. Haha!
One of my favorite fashion-related interview questions is “What’s that one style hack to always remember?” It’s simple. Nothing makes you look as on point as dressing according to your body type. I can almost hear you guys groaning, “Oh… but Masoom, we know that already.” (And if that’s the case, I’m clearly doing a good job. Teehee.)
But what I want to talk about today is how dressing for your body type translates to ethnic wear. Given how important this fashion genre is to us Desis, I’ve decided to give you my two cents on the matter. This topic isn’t discussed as much as it should be and with the trends for traditional outfits changing so frequently, it can be a bit overwhelming to know what works for you and what doesn’t. Using two absolutely gorgeous Sue Mue outfits, I’m going to show you exactly how to pick the best ethnic wear for you.
I’m sure you are familiar with (atleast I hope you are) my #WomenInBusiness series that I launched on Youtube. You can check it out here if you haven’t. Why I started this campaign is another story altogether and rather long to get into here but to sum it up minus-ing all the emotion – this is where I’ll be talking about one of my greatest passions – the business of fashion, extensively.
Today we’re talking about how to gain real Instagram followers and increasing your engagement.
One of my absolute favorite destinations for browsing through the latest (by latest I mean, like yesterday) fashion doing the rounds, discovering new, unique, emerging designers and brands, and occasionally engaging in a little shopping spree is SHOPBOP. Take for example, this rainbow shirt from DVF that I laid my hands on, even before the rainbow trend had taken full focus. Or, these Jacquemus shoes that make me want to cry with joy every time I put them on. I mean, look at them, they are an absolute DREAM!
