My Daily Gratitude Exercise {REQUESTED}

I’ve spoken about the gratitude exercise I do regularly on my vlog earlier, and then I spoke about it again a week ago on my Instagram stories and I got soooooooo many messages (literally 100+) asking for more details and how I do it, I decided it deserved a blog post.

Back in the day, I would do a general gratitude exercise which would involve saying thanks for all the things I’m grateful for in my life. Rather quickly, I found myself getting a little bored of doing it and having to repeat the same items repeatedly. Over time, I started doing a more specific, targeted exercise which I felt really, really helped me be more positive and change my outlook towards life. I still do the more general one once in a while – either on an airplane, or when I have an incredible view in front of me, or on holiday, or anytime that I’m feeling grateful and I want to release it into the universe.
However on everyday basis, I definitely prefer the one I’m listing below.

The best way to do this is with a paper and pen but I’m kinda lazy so I do mine in the shower.
Write down a minimum of 10 things that you were grateful for, that happened the previous day. Start your sentences with ‘I am so grateful for…’, ‘I am so grateful that…’ or ‘I am extremely thankful for…’ and write down the big and small moments that left a positive impact on you.
Immediately you begin to realise and register all the wonderful things that happened to you, making you instantly happier. This in-turn, puts you in a state of positive vibrations and makes you feel genuinely happy about your life in that very moment. Like attracts like, and hence, by acknowledging these moments you automatically attract more moments like these to be grateful for. It might seem difficult in the beginning and might even take you some time to come up with 10 things, but with each passing day, you’ll get better. Better = happier.

  1.  I am so grateful for the super productive day I had at work yesterday and for being able to get so much work done
  2. I am extremely thankful for the yummy dinner I had last night
  3. I am so grateful for the email I received about the confirmation of my collaboration with a brand
  4. I am extremely thankful for the conversation I had with my colleague which helped us both realise what we were doing wrong and how we could work better together
  5. I am so thankful for my relationship with my mother-in-law and for the time we spent together yesterday
  6. I am so grateful that my husband was so loving and supporting and took the time out to help me with my accounting
  7. I am so grateful for receiving the kindest message from my reader who loves how my work has evolved
  8. I am so thankful for the deep conversation I had with my best friend and I feel so lucky to have someone I can trust completely
  9. I am extremely thankful for hot bath I took – it made me feel so relaxed and rejuvenated
  10. I am so grateful for having found great friends in a new city and for the time I spent with them yesterday

There are two instances that I do my gratitude exercise on, and insist that you give it a try at too.

Firstly – in the morning, as your first activity after waking up or while getting ready for your day. The exercise helps set an extremely positive outlook to your day and gives you a kickstart. No jokes, I literally get jumpy excited after doing mine and I know it has the ability to transform my entire day.

Secondly – when you’re feeling low, upset, down or depressed. When one negative incident occurs in our life, all of our energy is poured into it, in overthinking and overanalysing the situation. Naturally, this doesn’t leave us feeling great. Like attracts like(again) – so allowing ourselves to be in this state will make us attract more situations that make us feel low, upset, down or depressed. Doing the gratitude exercise helps in instantly changing your vibrations because you’re focusing on a number of positive things that have happened/are happening to you instead of that one negative situation. Do the exercise and say to yourself, ‘I have so much going for me and so much to be thankful for’, instantly giving yourself the strength to be able to deal with that negative situation in the best possible way.

Here’s a list of 7 scientifically proven benefits of gratitude but I’m going to quickly jot down how Gratitude has benefitted me on a personal level:

  • It makes me feel happier and more positive
  • It makes me realize, value and remember all the amazing things I have in my life
  • It makes me look at my day with a completely refreshed perspective
  • It helps me deal with a negative situation with ease, tactfulness and a balanced perspective
  • It helps me attract more positive situations into my life. The more you are grateful for a certain thing, the more of it you receive

Personally for me, gratitude and manifestation are very closely linked and manifestation is something I believe in and practice daily as well. Gratitude helps me build the right kind of vibrations within myself to not only feel good in the present, but also use these vibrations to manifest. More on that later 🙂

Before I sign off, I would like to take this moment to express my gratitude towards YOU. Thank you for being here and for taking out the time to read this.
